Keith and Cassandra (AKA Sandy) Becker are founders of what started as a tiny business and grew to one that services 100 plus businesses and supports 25 families.

Keith grew up in Pennsylvania, working for his father’s family business his whole life. He was also a volunteer firefighter and active in his church and community. Ultimately, he reached a point where he felt ready for a change. A big change and a big risk!

He left the comfort and security of a job and place he knew well to move with Sandy and Tim to Columbia, SC. Their daughter, Angie started college that year at Southern University in Tennessee.

Keith learned many new skills and launched a new business that grew. It is the company that exists today because of great employees, loyal customers, reliable suppliers and a lot of help from God.

Sandy worked for a national company and was able to transfer her position to provide the anchor of a steady paycheck and health insurance that all startup companies need.

Since she was less enthusiastic about the move, Keith gave her the task of naming the corporation. “Canaan Enterprises, Inc.” was a leap of faith and a nod to Abraham and Sarah of the Old Testament: “Get thee from thy father’s house and I will make you a great nation, blessing those who bless you and cursing those who curse you.” (And yes, she had a child in her old age, but resisted the urge to name him Isaac!)

She was responsible for everything not involving grease or paint during the company’s formative years. Now she takes a more background role, trusting those with actual gifts in accounting, inventory, and management to handle those jobs.

The company began with a quote, “A man’s got to do what a man’s got to do!” and grew into something we continue to trust to God’s leadership.
